Stephen Browning leads Innovate UK's work with the Industrial Strategy Growth Sectors, supporting the creative industries, financial services and professional business services to innovate and adopt digital technology.

Previously, Stephen headed the Next Generation Services programme under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, focused on the responsible use of AI and data to transform the accountancy, insurance and legal services sectors. He has also led Innovate UK's Digital programme and the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), driving innovation across machine learning and AI, IoT, data analytics, distributed ledger technology, cyber security and 5G connectivity.

Before joining Innovate UK, Stephen spent nearly 20 years in the semiconductor industry with Philips Semiconductors and NXP, holding software engineering, project management and business management roles, where he led successful collaborations delivering open R&D programmes.

Stephen holds an MBA with distinction from Imperial College London and a BSc in Electronic Engineering.
